3D series Mt. Hood #1 – HAWA 2018- fluid acrylic painting
15″ x 39″ (outside dimensions of framed unit)
Hey Everyone! I’ve been working…I mean WE have worked our fool heads off in this gosh durn heat wave…(the words in my head are much more sailor mouthed) more like a lake of hot air parked itself over the PNW and decided to stay…for weeks! Ugh, I am a baby when it’s too hot or too cold. It messes with this old bag of bones and makes me grumpy and surly. I’m not even cute enough for that to work, so to keep myself tame I’ve been working on this painting. It’s been fun and took all week! WA built the “frame tray” (our new product line! Toot- Toot! That may not end up its name, for now its just a working title. ) We drew out the outline of the layers on Birchwood panels (so yummy to paint on in any medium, my favorite substrate)
Then, we cut those out and prepped everything…assembled at the end and BAM! This happened! ——–>
We painted the whole thing in our favorite deep gray and threw in some gold accents for that special touch. It’s super fun!!!! It’s also a 3D painting, it throws natural shadows and plays with the light it’s exposed to. I took the photos outside, no filters and under the covered patio. I love it! It’s gonna be a hard one to part with, I love first times, they are my favorite times! Ok, I’ll chill on the exclamation points, but in case you missed it, I’m excited and happy.
It’ll be going over to the shop floor here in a minute and become available for purchase. These tray frames are made of wood, but even better, recycled wood headed for the dump. These began life as a false wall somewhere and were going to be thrown away. The birch was bought new. WA tries to reuse everything he can find, I cheer him on in his in efforts to love the planet. (and my over the top requirements for substrate to paint, paint, paint) We spent a few days just getting the lines right…it looks so simple, I love that, trust me this was hard. Once we had the shapes right I started painting. These are all controlled pours, the mountain was done with laying in colors via stick and trowel…the background was a flip cup or two and the foreground was two dirty ribbons.
The whole thing weighs about 13 pounds…we are looking into materials now that will be lighter in the future, the smaller version WA just finished for our Saturday event look like this:
These are 12′ x 12″ x 1.5″ Made from a recycled wooden futon! I love these, we will be offering the visitors at the event to use our professional paints and paint one of these pre-framed pour trays! When they are dry, you can dress of the frames with paints or anything you can dream of. Then flip it over….and do it again! It’s a double-sided wood frame tray. The picture is one facing “front” and the other one is the “back”. Cool right?
These ended being lighter and taught us to look for a slightly different resource. 🙂 learning all the way, yup, that’s how we roll. We have 15 opportunities to paint at the Red Barn Art Fair, in Gresham. We think this will be a popular event so come early if ya wanna paint, once they are gone, they are gone!
Look at this beauty:
it’s just so awesome and I am sooooo ready to make another one…I have new ideas. This series is gonna be so much fun. Stay tuned!
Big love, HA! <3
Good Friday to you, I hope this post finds you well. I’m gonna do a quick re-cap on the week in studio and then maybe blather a little, I dunno, we will see what happens. 🙂
Alien encounter #3 is coming along, I’m still struggling with an uncooperative pain levels, so progress is slow. There are benefits to being chronically ill…yup, for sure. I am forced to move slower, plan a little more and spend time with the work telling me what to do next. This work is huge, and feels so good while I’m working on her, I literally lose time. That’s the good stuff man, the good, good stuff. Oils on canvas, 24″ x 48″ x 2″ Here she is now…
I took her outside for the light and true colors but also because she mentioned she liked the sound of the waterfall in the pond outside the studio. We sat in the Oregon sunshine soaking up rays and watching the family of hummingbirds, dive bomb the bright sparkling water drops, at the top of the falls. Some dragon flies came by to gossip and we visited with the awakening Maple that resides as Queen Mother to the garden. In her chloroform light we decided on some color choices for her candy colored clouds. She’s very quiet and rarely speaks. When she does, it’s a breathy whisper, like echoes carried by the breeze. She did share with me, that the other alien girls have a a desire for their own personal, names. We have three now, with a fourth appearing in my dreams, she will be here soon. So, while we will run with the series name “Alien Encounters” , the ladies will soon have their own names. I have a thrilling sensation when I work with them, the resonance of my ideas and reactions to the world at large, are held perfectly within these strangers…once alien, now family. 🙂
Have a great weekend, I have to run and get to the day job. Love to all! <3 HA!
Hello and how are you doing? Are you having a good start to the new year? I sure hope so.
I have been laying low for about a month now, trapped in a little bubble of chronic pain. I still work while I feel this way, just at a slower pace. The work actually helps the bubble and this too shall…well, it will lessen at the very least, at some point. We just take each day, be grateful to have it, embrace the suck and get on with what can be done. 🙂
I’m currently working steadily, to completion of this work…so far untitled…thoughts about that later in the post…
She is huge…wall size 36″ x 48″ x .75″ oils.
You might remember her from late spring (2016), when she first arrived on the breath of summers promise. She looked like this when we first met…
We have had tons of conversations about soul evolution, emotional endurance, quantum physics and of course some good old gossip sessions, she tells the best stories about the happenings of the natural world. She is a Goddess, dontcha know? 🙂 We embraced the changes the seasons brought our friendship and work continues… The symbols in the New Moon rising behind her read from left to right, Hope, Healing, Blessing, Dreamer, Goddess. It is written in ancient Lumerian script. 🙂 They say they were giant people who co-existed with the dinosaurs….I like that idea.
I also did the most awesome Moose commission for a beloved Patron and I can’t wait for the go-ahead to share it. Stay tuned for that, you’ll love him, I just know it, he has the kindest eyes and I named him Gus.
We continue, eh? Another year round the sun is offered and I plan to remain, steady and true to my I AM. Hold my dharma close and embrace what I can learn from contrasts…natural, self created and circumstantial as well. I plan to continue to learn to embrace what comes to me as my own and love myself more every chance I get to be aware enough to engage with that mind set. I plan to continue. That seems enough to me and I am happy because I choose to be not unhappy with my bits and pieces. I am not my mind. I AM and that is good and fine and gracefully peaceful whenever possible and most importantly, it is enough. Surviving to thriving…I’m gonna burn it all up before I go.
I hope you remember that I will and always do, love you. HA!
Yay! 2017…wanna dance? I am thinking about starting the year with a Name That Painting contest for this Lady…the winner would get the very first print from this painting as a reward for their brilliance…would that be a good way to start the year off? Let me hear from you…yay or nay?
Hello art fans! I am still here, working my creative fingers to the bone..hahaha, just kidding, not really. I’m concentrating on finishing some projects up this week in studio, and to that end, I have finished the video for the Madonna painting. I hope you enjoy. 🙂 Love always, HA! <3

Hey everyone, today is my Birthday day. I have had 47 trips round the sun today. Woot! Yay! Everyday above ground is good. 🙂 Love to all…this is my Birthday work, I do one every year…and the “LongNeck Sisters” (this is a series that’s spans 15 years of works) showed up with their angel feather coats and funny hats. What’s a party without hats? I dunno, but, I do know I don’t want to go to that party! Big love always, HA! <3
Hey there! Another quick post from me today, I have a new painting that is hollering to be finished…wanna see? okay I’ll post about it a little later on. It has a whole back story too…it’s been fun.
I did add the Story Teller to the sales floor, over at Etsy. Still offering Free Shipping inside the USA, because I adore you and want you to buy my art. 🙂 So, here’s the link and/or hit the image and go check it out. Big Love Always, HA! <3
P.S. This artist is once again in dire need of art supplies. Let’s put our thinking caps on and solve this quandary, shall we? Dare to be original, take reality by surprise, buy art today!
P.P.S. every time an artist gets art supplies…it saves the world just a little more. It’s true, google it. 🙂
Feeling like a little kid. lalalalala
Hello everyone, I’m back. Summer requires many long weekends, it’s a fact of life. Heat and sunshine makes a soul want to play. Being that this year we are a little more “restricted” in our physical activities, we are stay-cationing in the new homestead this summer. Last year saw us at the coast, hiking mountains, and hunting for crystals. This year finds us in the back yard oasis, next to the crystal filled pond alter, surrounded by lush tropical plants and overflowing barrels of bamboo. It’s kinda awesome, if I do say so myself. We had our first bloom open on the water hyacinth…
I know, cool beans right? 🙂
I have been painting too…wanna see? Ok…update in 3, 2, 1…
here is where we ended up on the up-side down lady…now titled…
“Marking the Days of Wildness”
I’ll get better pictures of her soon…and tell her story too. She has a poem. 🙂
I am still working on the monster size canvas with the working title of “dryad queen”. Her face has been my focus so these are shots from the daily changes…
the last shot is the most recent one from yesterday’s finish point…I think it’s fun to watch her face change so much as each layer of flesh and shadow are applied. Fascinating morphology…it’s very interesting to my mind anyway.
Well folks, that’s all on the art front for right now. I have been trying to rest more often and not push so hard, so things feel a little slow right now. I also, got caught up in the world…too much, way too much. Eh, I am tired and bone weary of the truth of this reality now. The world, really taps my reserves…man, I mean it really drains me. I do feel things pretty deeply, for sure, but shit boy howdy the world is burning…and it’s exciting to be alive for sure, being part of a huge shift in thinking and being in the world is fan-freaking-tastic….whew…it’s taxing on the body and heart. I pray for us all and the earth as a whole being daily. I love you and I hope you know that. I care about what happens to you and I hope you feel that. I will always be a friend you can count on to deliver the straight skinny, as I see it, I hope you trust in that. I will never be an enemy of life or spirit, I hope I convey that authentically, so you can feel it.
<3 the Revolution continues, one heart, mind and soul at a time…not to mention congressional seats…er, um, hit the link, we have work to do. Enough said. I’m gonna do my thing, keep on loving you, love myself and go make some good art. Because I’m awesome like that…you are too…let’s kick some ass, shall we? What should our theme song be, today? Leave me a link to the best choice of theme songs in the comments…let’s make a play list!
Be well and save the world today, love someone. <3
lol Good Day to you…the title today, is my mantra.
I will continue…speaking of continuing, I keep working on that #failed #oilpainting I shared in the last post, the up-side down lady…yeah well, when I woke up the next morning, she spoke loudly. I sat down with my coffee and turned on the lights to see her. She basically, started talking from go and started with…don’t turn me back over, yet. I was then instructed to get my normal palette out…all the juicy colors (squeeee)! She started talking about the night she spent standing on her head, to see things differently. I had dreamed about her the night before and she smiled in delight and gave me a wink. She remembers the dream too. What a wonder! We got to this point, before lunch:
From here she spoke of love. Deeply thinking about the nature of this reality and the hope she holds for our future as the human race. We prayed while finding just the right shade of blue…and put on her super hero eye mask…because, super hero mask…enough said. We found our selves here after lunch:
After a quick bite we got back to work…she wanted to talk about time. We chatted about it conceptually, while we had a giggle fit over the idea of marking time… like in the work place, you know, those safety posters? That say things like “10 days with no on the job disasters!” lol We thought about the days of recent past and how we would like to mark the days of mindfulness instead. Mark the days of love spoken and felt, instead. Marking down the days of being fully alive. Yeah, it sounded good to me too so at the end of the work day we found ourselves here:
She tells me she feels better with the sunset blooming her face and love on her lips. She tells me the wind stopped by and put the wild in her hair. She whispered,
“see you in the morning doll face” as I went and adult-ed all over the place.
I will enjoy the finish.
See y’all later, have the day folks!
Love always, HA! <3
