I was a fish,
first
I swam free
return me to the sea.
I was born this morning
in the bedroom doorway
passing through a time portal
in the back yard.
When you are dreaming
next to me
I slip a thread of silver
from my hair
and tie it to your toe.
When the moon is full
we twirl naked
the blue whales sing
I open my mouth when
stars spill out,
I am a gravity well.
Your eyes are the color of
a cornfield sky sighing
in the heat
I lick salt from your palm
the taste is sweet.
Before you met me
I was a fish,
first
I swam free
when this dream is over
return me to the sea.
