September

It’s September outside

moon dancing magic

tricks with sunbeams

  evening approached

like a shadow growing chin hair

 familiar memories old loneliness

beating erythema in the hollows

throat catching unspeakable need

 creeping inward, settling in pockets

 subtle indifference to the

temperature

of the water that buoys

 bodies unfamiliar to it.

If wishes were gold

then beggars would ride

is the old saying that repeats

in the corner

while sleeping it off

realizing imperceptible

shifts of truth do not require

beliefs sustainability

It’s  September outside

the moon is playing tricks

another season has passed

another winter has begun

ambiguous certainty

wrapped, packed away

 inside a chest of cedar

waiting for spring.
