This work has real leaves and the imprints of those leaves,
it makes it hard to tell what is real and what is an impression…
This work has tiny round mirrors to catch your image in,
shadows of fast moving water in the winter,
puddles played in on cloudy spring days and
the golden bronze colored memories of youth. (and of summertime, when it’s hot!)

Here is the quote that inspired the work:
My house says to me, “do not leave me, for here dwells your past.” And the road says to me, “Come and follow me, for I am your future.” And I say to both my house and the road, “I have no past, nor have I a future. If I stay here, there is a going in my staying; and if I go there is a staying in my going. Only love and death change all things.”

Thanks Blue…I mentioned this one yesterday, said I hated it…but after getting up this morning and it was dry and ready for some detail work…I really ended up liking it…so I guess it’s better if I don’t look at them while they dry…*Grins*

Did you use resin on it? Love what inspired it and really this is quite beautiful, well stunning really. Are you putting the quote on the back of the painting?

Hey Cor! Nope no resin, but that would be a good idea. It has tons of poly on it though, so it has that affect, sorta. I put the quote on the back of every painting and I include a paper copy of it when I ship. The day I took the photo of this work was so lucky, because in different lighting it looks different, so I have it on a sunny wall (hence the tons of UVB poly) so I can watch it change through the day. 🙂

This is the best thing I’ve seen on your blog. Just wish I had a few bucks lying around rather than a clothes dryer that just gave up the ghost! 🙂

I really appreciate this piece-even via the internet- I got a feeling of calm reflection-I immediately wanted to see closer the leaves and impressions- I lost my studio and gallery and living space about 6 years ago to fire and lost everything-what a comforting image (to me anyway)
    thanks for that

This is beautiful; what did you use on the leaves to give them that lovely shimmer?

CKW: I am so sorry to hear about your loss in the fire, I do hope that you are in recovery and getting back into your art. Thank you so much for your kind words, I appreciate them so very much. All the best to you and yours, I do hope you’ll come back round these parts again soon, I’d love to learn more from and about you. I’m super pleased that one of my works could cause you to feel even a tiny bit better. thanks for sharing that, you made my day.

Saint know it all: (BTW I LOVE your name) I used a product called Pearl Ex pigments. It is a ultra fine powder and totally fade resistant and super pure and bright. Fine it at Blicks or art supply stores. I use it in my oil painting, I use it with acrylics (all though that’s a little trickier, I use it with walnut oil for a shiny effect like fairy dust and I sprinkle it straight onto to wet paint too) In this work I painted the picture (colors) with oils, then I took leaves and just pressed them into the wet paint to make impressions, then I took the leaf, rubbed it into the Perl Ex on the paint covered side and them used the leaf like a stamp to press the leaf into the wet paint again…each time it got “painty” I dipped it into another of the colors of pearl ex and kept layering them. At the end I had used four leaves to create the impressions, they were all covered in different powders so I pressed the leaves themselves into the paint too. I added the mirrors. I waited for it to all dry and then went back in and gave shadow lines to the impressions to make them pop off the canvas…which made it hard to tell what was real and what was not. Love that. I hope that helps!

Gypsy: I sure hope it sells someday! I’ve had it up and for auction and in gallery events and on the web site and the blog…and everyone seems to love it but no buyers as of yet. 🙁 Someday maybe. A girl can hope. LOL Wait do you know something I don’t? did you get a message from the heavens saying I am going to sell it? Tea leaves, gut feeling? These are burning questions *Big Grins*
